What you should
know about BICS before you buy.
The BICS Membership function has
a long history of being a successful promotional tool for associations, businesses,
and Internet portals. What makes BICS unique is that it is interchangeable.
It can be used in varying degrees anywhere that "Honors BICS".
To take advantage of their services participating
entities may suggest (or require) that you purchase a BICS parcel (from them)
so here's what you should know about BICS before you buy:
- BICS parcel owners are presented
with various products and/or services at no cost, or at reduced cost. Look
for the "we Honor BICS" icon. (see above)
- Associations, portals, and vendors
who participate in "Honoring BICS", do so voluntarily.
- There are no across the board
rules. BICS attributes are determined by the entities that use it as
a membership and/or promotional function. Each one differs, and each
will differ in what they offer.
- The cost of a BICS parcel will
vary depending upon who's selling it. It's likely to be priced in accordance
with the service the seller is providing.
- BICS does not represent equity
in anything. The value of a BICS parcel is solely dependant on those
who "Honor BICS" and value of the services they offer.
- There is no overseeing entity
that controls, governs, or profits through BICS. If you purchase a BICS
parcel, your seller retains all money and is responsible for all representations
that are made. Buyer beware.
- BICS acts as a membership function
for associations and Internet portals. For example, an IMASD Membership
is in reality, a privately branded BICS parcel.
- BICS is unique. It grew
out of the cyberspace economy. Like many aspects of the Internet, it
has no precedent.
- BICS parcels are individually
numbered. If you own a BICS parcel, you should have a listed number.
