BICS for Clubs, Associations, and other Membership Organizations:

Many web sites say "become a member" and charge a fee for the privilege.  BICS allows you to easily generate income through the sale of memberships.

BICS parcel numbers provide the basis for tracking and transferring membership holders.

Isn't your customer more likely to buy a membership from you, when that membership is interchangeable with membership to other web sites?

Why BICS and not your own memberships?  The answer is simple.  BICS are your own memberships.  They have a common name (with other web site memberships) so that you can benefit from name recognition and the shared Internet traffic.

Yes you can set up and track your own memberships too, and why not?  Just require that your members have a BICS parcel number.  By doing so, your web site gets heavily promoted by other like minded web sites.

The most unique aspect of BICS is that there is no single company or financial interest pushing it for their own benefit.  You control your own future, because BICS is not a company or a financial interest in itself.  You charge what you want, and you provide what you want, to the members of your web site.

BICS Pros and Cons:

When used as promotion for businesses:

Pro:
BICS is one of the easiest (and least expensive) ways to promote your web site. You provide discount products and services to those who have a BICS parcel number. In exchange you are promoted within the BICS community.

Con:
BICS works on a principle that's counter-intuitive. This makes it difficult to explain, let alone to convince one's superiors to use it as a marketing tool.

When purchasing a BICS parcel:

Pro:
Parcel owners are presented with various products and/or services at no cost, or at reduced cost.

Con:
There's no across-the-board consistency.  A BICS parcel may be good value in one industry, and of lesser value in another. The price of a parcel may depend on where you buy it.
